What is Truth?

In John 18: 33-38, Jesus is questioned by Pontius Pilate. He asked: “Are you the king of the Jews?”
In His reply, Jesus explained to Pilate that His kingdom was not of this world. Jesus said to him: “You say that I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”

Pilate then asked Jesus: “What is truth?”

We might ask that question of all that is occurring in our world today. What is truth? Then there is “reality.” What is real? Is reality the same as truth? Unfortunately, I don’t think so, at least not lately, and maybe not ever in history! You can add to this list, I’m sure:

Truth: There are two sexes, male and female. In some sports, there are male teams and female teams.

Reality: Mar 19, 2022; Atlanta, Georgia, USA; Penn Quakers swimmer Lia Thomas, a transgender and biological male, finished eighth in the 100 free at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at Georgia Tech. Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports | Karleigh Webb

Truth: The life of a human being begins at conception because human embryos from the one-cell stage forward are indeed living individuals of the human species; that is, they are human beings.

The definition of murder is: the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another, and there are state and federal laws prohibiting murder.

Reality: Abortion, which terminates in the killing of a human being, is legal in many states.

Truth: The presumption of innocence is not guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution. However, through statutes and court decisions, it is recognized as one of the most basic requirements of a fair trial.

Reality: A presumption of innocence does not guarantee that the accused will remain free until their trial has concluded. In some circumstances, a person can be held in custody and many are held in prison and have even reported being deprived of basic human rights.

Truth: Free and fair elections increase the likelihood of a peaceful transfer of power. They help to ensure that losing candidates will accept the validity of the election’s results and cede power to the new government.

Reality: Elections alone do not assure democracy.  Dictators, foreign governments, and enemies of the state can tamper with the election process and they can use the Justice system, voting technology, and many types of fraud to interfere with the elections. In 2020, the mainstream media darlings announced the Presidential race election results, and with straight faces, they congratulated Joe Biden as the winner and said that Biden received 51% of the popular vote and beat Obama’s record for most votes ever won in 2020. Let that sink in: “…Biden…beat Obama’s record.”

Truth: During normal day-to-day activities, cloth facemasks do not provide any protection from respiratory viruses because they cannot filter the very small particles that compose viruses.

Reality: Jan 3, 2024 (Reuters) – Hospitals in at least four U.S. states have reinstated mask mandates amid a rise in cases of COVID, seasonal flu, and other respiratory illnesses.

Pilate, this Roman prefect who sure as heck knew the truth, washed his hands of the whole mess of the trial of Jesus and left it up to the mob to decide. Those who felt threatened by Jesus lied about Him, and the people in the mob were influenced by these liars. Thus, they all demanded that Jesus, who was innocent, be crucified and that the REAL criminal, Barabbas, should be set free.

No wonder the Roman Empire collapsed! When you knowingly amplify the voices of the liars and stifle the voices of truth, all hell breaks loose!

Do we have the luxury of washing our hands of the corruption, death, larceny, and depravity that has spread throughout our culture? Do we leave our fate to the mobsters who perpetrate the lies and their followers who believe the lies, hoping that the hell they release on the world won’t affect us?

When Truth = Reality, maybe we will live free. As long as we allow our reality to be controlled by liars, we remain slaves, IMHO.
